10/6/10

Sorry for not updating sooner, but we just got to our hotel (Hotel Carol) last night.

The plane ride to Detroit, Michigan was only about an hour long, but it was definitely a new experience for Steve and I. (Although we've both been on a plane before, it was when we were younger, so we don't remember it much of it.)  We got to sit next to a window, so of course, we were staring out of it the entire duration of the flight. Breathtaking, is what I would dub the view: seeing all the houses, cars, and mountains of Tennessee get so small that they seem to disappear. Anyways, we landed in Detroit and just hung out at the airport in an amazing lounge whilst waiting for our second flight, the plane that would take us to Europe.

When it was time to leave, we packed up our things from the lounge and made a few calls to friends and family to say goodbye. Then we boarded the plane, which is the third largest in the Detroit Delta Airport, at 5:50pm. It was quite nice, pillows, covers, reclining seats, personal televisions on each seat, and two meals, but after being on that plane for seven hours, I think we were all tired of it. Oh, and none of us slept at all. At 7:35am, we stepped of the plane into Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Our next flight was at 10:25am, so we did not have too much time before leaving Amsterdam. In fact, we only had enough time to exchange some of our dollars for euros. As soon as we boarded the next plane, Steve and I passed out, even before the plane had even started. I didn't wake up until the flight was over. It was a little disorienting to say the least. At 11:45am, we were in Copenhagen, Denmark. Having six hours until our next flight, we all met up with one of Grandpa's old friends to give us a quick tour of a town called Dragoer. It is a very old, very historical town near the ocean. The roads are cobblestone, the houses are rustic, and even some of the roofs are thatched. Oh, and is is cold. Very, very cold. I really enjoyed our tour, despite the weather. I did take photos, and I will upload them on Facebook at some point in the near future. We took a bus to downtown Copenhagen and walked around exploring for a while, then we took the metro station back to the airport. We left Copenhagen , Denmark at 6:30pm and landed in our current location, Prauge Czech Republic, at 7:45pm.

At the airport, we offloaded, collected our luggage, caught a taxi, and then went and ate some authentic Chinese food. We are now staying at the Hotel Carol for four days (including today), and four nights (five if you include last night). Today we are simply resting from all the traveling and lack of sleep. Tomorrow we will begin touring Prague.

That is all for now.

P.S.
We got to see a sunset from one of the planes, and it was absolutely amazing, because we were above the clouds when we saw it. so basically it looked like an upside sunset.
